Today we were assigned the task of digging holes and cutting fence posts for the new grazing area for the coming-soon milk cows. Kerry and Steve set out with a couple locals, Thomas and Sacumbile, to cut posts and didn’t come back into camp until they had cut 60 posts! That may or may not sound like much to you, but you can’t just run out to the Home Depot and pick up a truck load of fence posts, you have to go out and cut down trees ranging from 6-10” and cut them into 6-7 foot posts. Darn hard work. Here’s a picture of Richard, our fearless leader leaning up against one of them.
Here’s part of the hole digging crew working away at over 145 fence post holes. No power auger here, just elbow grease and shovels. Also darn hard work. In the winter time here the ground can get hard as a rock, so digging a foot-deep hole is no simple task.
Today was also kill-the-goat day, which is a much anticipated day for all the team. Jako and Bill escorted our dinner home in the back of the Land Rover and was well greeted by Jako’s 10-month old, 150 pound puppy, Nero. He was slaughtered humanely and Kristen (she’s been here for a couple months) and Erika expertly skinned him. Ryan, you would have been very proud, she didn’t heave once. LOL.
Hello to the Ervin and Windhausen gangs. (from Candi, Ed, and Erika)
Way to go, team Zambia! Sounds like all must be feeling better, and the heat... that can't slow you down! God must be sending some cool breezes at just the right moments. You're in my prayers!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the pictures. It really connects us here at home to the reality of the ministry over there! I hope my other comments made it to you? I posted them on another page like this, but I am computer illiterate.:) Where is Samara when I need her. :) For all I know my other comments ended up in china. :)
ReplyDeleteThe prayers will keep going up constantly for you all! mama Heather Kohnen
