JUNE 20, 2006, LUSAKA (AFP) - Zambian authorities are investigating a possible bird flu outbreak after more than 40 wild birds were found dead in the tourist resort of Livingstone at the Victoria Falls, an official said.....

Blog Note: This is the H5N1 strain of the bird flu only. This has not yet been confirmed and if it is the Avian blue the virus will be contained to birds unless direct live and fecal contact pass the virus to a direct person.

Note: If our mission/church purchases animals for the village, I suggest cows over chickens since there has been a false alarm of bird flu causing wide spread destruction of chickens within Zambia.

Ideas for Things to bring to Zambia - Self

Please let us know about things that we could bring to Zambia to make our own lives a little easier, such as:

- Sun Screen (offset the Malaria medicine's sun sensitivity)
- Pyrethrin spray for clothes
- DEET insect lotion
- Buzz Off Clothing, bug proof clothing
- Katadyn personal water purifier
- Protein Bars for extra protein
- Fresh Bath by Micelle for cleaning up in the evening
- Camp stool to rest 'off' the ground

Immunizations

Well, tonight a majority of us received our immunizations. Pretty colored band aids on all the Missionaries tonight. The good news was that we had many fewer shots than we thought we might need (no Yellow Fever or Rabies for most of us). The average of us had about 3-4 shots and two perscriptions. I mentioned to Chris that it would be nice to get a post for when and how we need to take our prescriptions for Malaria and Typhoid. Hopefully, we can get that posted in the next few days.

I would also like to thank Passport Health for coming out and giving us a great overview and education for our upcoming trip to Zambia. They really helped the team and insured that we had the necessary immunizations in time and before our departure.

Mike's Pet

Mike was right. These are not spiders, but they are members of the Arachnid family.

They can run 10MPH and have a nasty bite. They are carnivorous and like to eat mice and lizards.

I suggest heavy boots for Zambia, I think I might leave my Birks at home!

Welcome

This site has been created to help the First Baptist Church of Woodbridge Mission Team remain in communication with its partners, sponsors and one another. My hope is to be able to provide a place for people to feel as if they are part of the Mission Team that will be on the ground helping the Tongan Tribe in the Mukamba Village during the month of August 2006.
