Arrival and Work Around Camp

Hello everyone!  Sorry it has been a while since we have been in touch!  We have arrived safely in the bush after a long journey here.  Many suffered from jet lag and it took a little adjusting, but we are pretty much on schedule now.

Upon the evening of our arrival in Johannesburg, we were able to meet up with Johan, a fellow missionary that has often joined our team from South Africa.  Because he could not join us in the bush this year, we met for dinner and fellowship before the second leg of our journey to Livingstone.  Here is a picture of him with Steve and Bill, (for those who have never met him).

The morning after we flew in from Livingstone and drove into the bush, we were privileged to partake in a unique process here in Mpapila village (where Amber and Jako live).  There are many orphans in the community that Jako and Amber try to help, as well as the orphans that are housed in the Mission of Love Orphanage.  They have a committee that comes together, made up of Tonga people, that help determine the needs of the orphans (clothing, food, and education).  Our VBS kids also helped with the project this year, producing 18 blankets for the children, in addition to those needs.  The girls spent the entire day helping to interview families, assess their needs and distribute items.  We are proud to show our VBS kids that the hard work paid off!  Here are 3 orphans receiving their blankets!  All were distributed!

The guys spent the day working on rebuilding Jako’s quad (4-wheeler).  It took a tumble a while back and because of this, was broken and not running properly.  They use the 4-wheeler to often pull the trailer and for other work projects, so for a while they were making due without.  But Jako was very excited to have it fixed again and ready for work.  He also took a short joy ride in excitement that he had his quad back and running as well!

Noah had a chance to sit down and fix Amber’s guitar.  Because of all the incredible donations, we didn’t have the room to bring a guitar with us on the trip.  So we fixed a few strings and cleaned up hers to use for church in the morning!

Stay tuned… we will be back shortly for day 2!
